Methodology & Editorial Standards
How We Research
Every piece of content on IsGoldAGoodInvestment.com is backed by verifiable data from authoritative sources. We do not publish speculation, rumors, or unverified claims.
Data Sources
| Data Type | Primary Source | Verification |
|---|---|---|
| Live metal prices | Twelve Data API (COMEX, LBMA, Forex feeds) | Cross-checked against LBMA Gold Price |
| Historical prices | LBMA Gold Price Archive, FRED Economic Data | Official published data only |
| Central bank data | World Gold Council, IMF COFER Database | Government/institutional reports |
| Analyst forecasts | J.P. Morgan, Goldman Sachs, UBS, Deutsche Bank | Published research notes only |
| ETF data | Fund provider filings (SPDR, iShares, VanEck) | SEC filings, fund fact sheets |
| Market statistics | World Gold Council, LBMA, CME Group | Official industry data |
| Tax information | IRS publications, tax code | Current law as published |
Price Data Accuracy
Live prices are fetched from Twelve Data's API, which aggregates data from COMEX, LBMA, and global Forex markets. Prices are cached and refreshed hourly. We clearly label the data refresh frequency on every page.
Price data passes through a three-layer caching system (in-memory, Redis, API) to ensure availability. If the primary API is unavailable, the most recent verified price is displayed rather than estimated or stale data.
Editorial Process
Content Creation
- Research — We gather data from at least two independent authoritative sources before publishing any claim or statistic.
- Writing — Content is written by our editorial team with a focus on accuracy, clarity, and actionability.
- Fact-checking — All numerical claims (prices, returns, percentages, dates) are verified against primary sources before publication.
- Review — Content is reviewed for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with our editorial standards.
- Publication — Content is published with a visible "Reviewed & updated" date.
Content Updates
We review and update content when:
- Market conditions change materially (gold moves 5%+ in a week)
- New analyst forecasts are published by major banks
- Tax laws or IRS regulations change
- Central bank data is released (quarterly)
- Users report errors or outdated information
Every update is reflected in the "Reviewed & updated" date on each page.
Investment Verdict
Our homepage "Investment Verdict" is not algorithmically generated. It is manually curated by reviewing:
- Current gold price relative to historical trends
- Central bank buying/selling activity
- US Dollar Index (DXY) direction
- Federal Reserve interest rate outlook
- Inflation data (CPI, PCE)
- Geopolitical risk factors
- Analyst consensus from major investment banks
The verdict is updated when market conditions shift meaningfully — not on a fixed schedule.
What We Will Not Do
- Publish unverified price targets — We only cite forecasts from named, reputable institutions with published research
- Guarantee returns — Gold prices are volatile and past performance does not predict future results
- Provide personalized advice — We are not registered investment advisors. Our content is educational, not advisory
- Allow affiliate relationships to influence editorial content — Affiliate links are clearly disclosed. Our verdicts and rankings are based on research, not commissions
- Present opinions as facts — When we express a view, it is clearly labeled as our analysis, not objective truth
